About Old Basing

Old Basing is a charming and historic village, home to the important civil war site of Basing House, just a short walk away. Seymour House is situated at the heart of the village on the quiet road The Street, immediately opposite the village church. The village is friendly, with a strong community spirit, and well provided for in terms of facilities.

There are two recreation areas a short walk away, providing for both adults and children a choice of activities including cricket and tennis, and another large walking and recreation area a short cycle ride away. The old village has a bakery and a tack shop, while the new village that lies beyond the church has a number of shops including newsagent, butcher, grocer and hardware store. Basing has both doctors and dentists, and is also home to the (private) Hampshire Clinic.

There are three pubs in easy walking distance, with both traditional pub food and a high quality restaurant, and the village includes facilities for Anglican, Roman Catholic and Methodist worship. The village infant and junior schools have a good reputation, with a choice of private schools nearby. Secondary education is also well provided in the area.

In spite of its distinct village atmosphere and identity, Old Basing is just a few minutes from Chineham (with a convenient shopping centre featuring Tesco's supermarket, a library and a range of shops) and from Basingstoke, which has an excellent choice of town centre and out-of-town shopping, business and leisure activities, as well as a fine hospital. Access to the M3 is at Basingstoke or Hook, and the London train service from Basingstoke is fast and frequent. There is also a good bus service between Old Basing and Basingstoke. Looking a little further afield, Reading lies just over 15 miles to the north, and Winchester is a similar distance to the south west, so the choice of leisure activities is superb.

No wonder Old Basing is such a sought-after location.
